Procedures Performed by Our Neurologist

Dr. Stephanie Engel has specialized in veterinary neurology and recently completed her residency at Colorado State University, one of the premier programs in the country. For animals in need, Dr. Engel performs the following procedures:

MLO

CT, MRI and mylogram studies

We offer advanced high-quality diagnostic imaging techniques, which are essential in diagnosing spinal cord and brain disorders.

MRI image

Cerebrospinal fluid taps and analyses (spinal taps)

We are able to perform thorough neurological disease testing, including infectious disease testing, on spinal fluid. This is helpful in diagnosing meningitis, immune-mediated diseases and certain types of CNS cancers.

Surgery

Muscle and nerve biopsies

Muscle and nerve biopsies can help diagnose diseases of the peripheral nervous system, including immune-mediated diseases, infectious diseases, degenerative diseases and endocrine-related diseases.

Disc Herniation

Spinal surgery

We use state-of-the-art equipment to perform surgery for intervertebral disc disease, spinal tumors, traumatic injuries and congenital diseases.

MRI hydrocephalus

Brain surgery

With the use of advanced imaging, we are able to offer surgical removal of certain types of brain tumors, abscesses, congenital malformations and traumatic injuries. Dr. Engel is also one of a small number of neurologists in the country trained to perform ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement. This procedure is used to relieve excess pressure in the brain secondary to hydrocephalus (increased fluid pressure in the ventricles of the brain).
