AHSC Internship

Program Description

The Animal Hospital Specialty Center is a state-of-the-art emergency, critical care, and referral hospital located in an affluent suburb of Denver, Colorado. We offer an extremely well rounded and comprehensive rotating internship with specialists in surgery, internal medicine, critical care, oncology, cardiology, radiology and dentistry.

As an intern at Animal Hospital Specialty Center, you will be rotating through internal medicine, surgery, critical care, oncology and emergency medicine services supervised by board certified specialists. Radiologists and cardiologists are also available for additional work-up, procedures and didactic rounds. Emergency duty will include primary case responsibility for cases seen after-hours. Specialists are available 24 hours a day for consultation, surgery, ultrasound and advanced procedures.

Our 10,000 square foot facility offers expansive surgery, endoscopic and procedure suites. Interns are involved in state of the art diagnostics and therapy including ultrasonography, cytology interpretation, bone marrow sampling, computed tomography, prescribing and formulating TPN, tracheal/urethra/utereteral stenting procedures and peritoneal dialysis amongst other supportive modalities. In-house diagnostic and monitoring capabilities include routine lab analyzers, blood gas monitoring and indwelling arterial blood pressure transducers. Our surgical suites are well equipped for soft tissue, neurologic and orthopedic procedures (TPLO, TTA, cementless THR, arthroscopy, bone plating and external skeletal fixation).

Our specialists are heavily committed to providing continuing education. Specialist led topic rounds and journal club are conducted twice weekly while holding morbidity and mortality rounds every-other-week. Interns are also encouraged to attend regional CE and are provided $500 in CE stipend, which can be allocated to conference registration, journal subscriptions or textbooks. In 2011, ACVIM will be held at the Denver Convention Center, just 19 miles from our facility, offering a convenient and affordable opportunity for attendance. Other benefits include medical, dental and life insurance, vacation, personal day, pet benefits and a bonus based on cases seen during emergency shifts.

Our facility is located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, close to world class skiing, hiking, bicycling, rafting and all the outdoor and cultural events that Denver has to offer.
